Is requiring gas fee a bug?

Is requiring gas fee a bug? I only have eth on eth mainnet and has nothing on polygon network. Transferring from eth to matic network requires to pay high gas fee.

You can transfer matic using the Polygon chain, and the gas fee is about 0.1 matic. It is much less expensive than ether transfer.
